Wiring diagram for an electrode boiler for 220 and 380 volts

We recently told how to make an electrode boiler yourself. A really interesting idea, because not so much time is spent on creating a device, and besides, improvised tools are used for this. Today I would like to tell you about what are the schemes for connecting the electrode boiler to electricity and heating. The fact is that this type of water heater can have a power of either 3 or 9 kW. If in the first case a 220 Volt network is suitable, then with 9 kilowatts one can not do without three-phase wiring. We’ll now consider two connection options!

Single phase network

If the power of the device is small (maximum 7 kW), it is allowed to connect it to 220 V. In this case, it is recommended to conduct the phase to break through the machine, and zero directly from the switchboard bus. It is also necessary to connect grounding to the body of the water heater in order to protect itself from electric shock.

So, the simplest electrical circuit for connecting an electrode heating boiler is as follows:Installation via magnetic starter

Magnetic switch simplifies equipment management. When the temperature on the thermostat exceeds the set point (or vice versa drops below), the magnetic starter will turn on / off the electric boiler. This is very convenient and allows you to make the heating system automatic.

Three phase network

If you want to connect a high power electric boiler, you must use three phases. The connection diagram of the 380-volt ion boiler should be as follows:Connection to three phases

Here, the wiring is a little more complicated. As you can see, the three phases first go to the machines, and from one phase conductor they made a branch of the wire into a separate single-pole machine, which serves the circulation pump. From the circuit breaker, the power goes to the magnetic starter, and from it to the boiler terminals. The zero conductor is connected to each device separately: a pump, a temperature regulator, a water heater. Do not forget about grounding, you need to connect it with your own hands to a special terminal on the case.

Connecting the boiler to the network

So we have provided typical schemes for connecting the electrode heating boiler to electricity and the heating system itself. A popular manufacturer of water heaters - the company Galan recommends that in a three-phase power supply network, each phase be driven through a separate single-pole machine.Thus, it is possible to manually adjust the heating power, turning off or, conversely, including power to each electrode.
